Mark Pendlington DL has formally taken up his duties as His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk, following the retirement of Clare, Countess of Euston CVO, who has served with distinction in the role since 2014.
As Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Pendlington becomes The King’s personal representative in Suffolk, with responsibility for promoting the work of the Crown, supporting voluntary and community organisations, and celebrating the achievements of individuals and communities across the county.
Mr Pendlington brings a wealth of experience to the role, having held a number of senior positions within Suffolk, including Chair of the Suffolk Business Board, Pro-Chancellor of the University of Suffolk, and Senior Non-Executive Member of Chapter at St Edmundsbury Cathedral. He has also served as a Deputy Lieutenant for Suffolk and has been closely involved in a wide range of charitable and community initiatives.
Upon his appointment the new Lord-Lieutenant said:
“I am immensely proud and honoured to be appointed as His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk. It is a privilege to represent The King in a county that I care so deeply about. I am very much looking forward to meeting people across Suffolk, celebrating their achievements, and supporting the many organisations that make our county such a vibrant and special place. Suffolk has so much to offer, and I will do all I can to promote its people, its communities, and its successes far and wide.”
He succeeds Clare, Countess of Euston CVO, whose eleven years in office have been marked by dedicated service to the Crown and to the people of Suffolk. During her tenure, Lady Clare has played a central role in supporting charitable work, strengthening community ties, and representing the Monarch at key moments in the life of the county.
A special service to mark Lady Clare’s retirement and to welcome Mr Pendlington to his new role will take place at St Edmundsbury Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday 18 April at 3.00pm. The service will celebrate Suffolk’s rich heritage and community spirit, featuring music, readings, and contributions reflecting the character and diversity of the county.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the service, which provides an opportunity to both thank Lady Clare for her outstanding service and to welcome Mr Pendlington as he begins this important new chapter.
