Suffolk’s National Honours Awarded

On Tuesday 21st September The Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk hosted a Garden Party at Bruisyard Hall to celebrate and recognise individuals, organisations and businesses who had received a Royal Honour over the past 18 months, including MBEs, British Empire Medalists, Queen’s Award for Enterprise and Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service winners. The Lord Lieutenant commented, ‘Today has seen the most extraordinary gathering of Suffolk’s talent, compassion and commitment to community. It makes me very proud of this wonderful county and all those who have merited an Honour from HM The Queen.’

The Suffolk Lieutenancy

The post of Lord-Lieutenant is now an honorary appointment. The origin dates back to Henry VIII when its holder was made responsible for the maintenance of order and for the military measures necessary locally for defence. Go to our History page to find out more information about the role.
