Seven remarkable residents of Suffolk were presented with their British Empire Medals on 25 April, at a ceremony held by the Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk, Clare, Countess of Euston.
The residents had been recognised in HM The King’s New Year’s Honours List. The British Empire Medal is, by tradition, presented by the Lord-Lieutenant as the King’s representative in the County. It is awarded for exceptional service to a local community. The Medals were presented in-front of a gathering of family, friends and local dignitaries.
Receiving their awards from the Lord-Lieutenant were:
Mrs Christine May Boatwright – Founder and Clinical Director, Kernos Centre. For Services Mental Health in Suffolk.
Mrs Murel Joyce Bridges – For Services to St Elizabeth Hospice, Framlingham
Mrs Lilian June Winter – For Services to St Elizabeth Hospice, Framlingham
Mr John Allen Dunnett – For Services to the Community of Grundisburgh
Ms Kathleen Jane Hamilton – Lately Theatre Manager and Administrator. For Services to the Theatre
Mrs Ann Patricia Osborn – Chief Executive Officer, The Rural Coffee Caravan Information Project. For Services to Older People and combatting Loneliness in the communities of Suffolk and Norfolk.
Mrs Jill Marianne Terrell – For Services to Libraries
Speaking after the Investiture the Lord Lieutenant said:
“It is always such an honour for me to meet and speak with recipient of the British Empire Medal, our local community heroes. It is so heartwarming to hear their stories and the incredible work and contributions they have all made across our county. I hope others will be inspired to look to their own communities and nominate those within it who deserve recognition and thanks for the exceptional work they do.”
